Cate Blanchett to play Bob Dylan in biopic.

Cate BlanchettBob Dylan

The resemblance is uncanny.

To be candid, Blanchett will not have to shoulder the burden all by herself; Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, and Richard Gere are among those who will portray different aspects of Dylan in the upcoming I’m Not There, due to be released next year.

Is that Bob Dylan or Cesar Romero?

Actually, if you look closely at the key structural features of the faces (structure of nose, cheekbones)… it is not that much of a stretch. A quarter-decent makeup artist can fill in the rest trivially. She could easily play a younger, slightly more androgynous Dylan. I suspect that this is what the film-makers probably have in mind.

Maybe as Cliff suggests, she can play something from the white-face and asexual period of the Rolling Thunder Review, or possibly the ’65 post-Newport electric time through the motorcycle accident time. But as for the quarter-decent makeup artiste, that would assume that such a person would be hired to make her look so much worse.

Might the film – “I’m Not There” be the antithesis of the film – “Being There”?

I wonder if “I’m Not There” is reference to his life-long complaint of being misunderstood and plastered with expectations from the folkies and the press. I also wonder if this is an authorized biography, and if it is, if he had control over which actors are portraying his life. I just looked at the Highway 61 Revisited cover, and it appears that Kate’s lips are a little larger than his in the early years. How are they going to hide that?

I appreciate the humor. However, The Sydney Morning Herald published and article, with two, different pictures, which support Cliff’s comment.

“I’m Not There”..as a BOB fan, I make the presumption of ‘two’probable title cause’s?..Bob making the reference to:

1)I’m not in the film of me?..actors are “me” I’m Not There?

2)”I’m not there”..I’m NOT where a lot of expectant people/fans place me in adoration? idolized?

Bob Dylan has always made “self” examinations, one of his major talents, “Self Porttrait” for instance?

The reason I am suggesting that “I’m Not There” is the antithesis of “Being There” can be briefly summarized in the following comment… The absolute brilliance of Peter Sellers in “Being There” will contine too far out-shine the potential dullness of Cate Blanchett in “I’m Not There.” Perhaps C.V. is severely lacking in admirers of Peter Sellers!
